About Kat

About

An Artist Informed by the Spectrum

Weird, off-putting, black sheep, abrupt, aggressive, blunt, and so many more adjectives have been used to describe Kat. None of which fit her inner, lived experience. The disconnect between how she experiences herself and how she is perceived by others is a driving force behind her art. As an autistic person, Kat finds her differences in perception the foundation of her visual language.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Fuckery Paintings

Kat’s work focuses on the intersection between one’s inner world and its expression to the other, and the boundaries that exist between. She is interested in the barriers placed between ourselves, and ourselves and the other. She explores how our perception is a construct of our inner world, how mutable our understanding is of ourselves, and even more so, the other … and how bound we are within our own vast beautiful minds. She explores in her paintings mutations of memory, as well as point of view.

Multi-layered Process

Kat develops each piece of work through a layering process. There is discovery in each piece not visible to the naked eye. Her thoughts about each painting evolve during creation, thus changing the piece and its meaning – sometimes dramatically. Watch the progression of stages on just one piece of work.
